The European Society of Cardiology (ESC) represents more than 70,000 cardiology professionals across Europe and the Mediterranean. Its mission is reducing the burden of cardiovascular disease in Europe. To fulfill its mission the ESC has set five long-term strategic goals that define what should be achieved within the next years. Europe needs reliable data on cardiovascular (CV) disease and the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) is the body which should provide such data. Surveys and Registries (S/R) are essential to assess CV epidemiology, diagnostic/therapeutic processes and adherence to Guidelines. Aim of the Oversight Committee of the EURObservational and Research Programme of the ESC (launched in 2009) is to act as coordinator of specific surveys and registries set up to provide a better understanding of medical practice based on observational data collected with more robust methodological procedures. Since February 16, 2012 EORP-ESC has been cooperating with EURHOBOP contributing to the EURHOBOP external validation with available databases.
